TO SCATTER FLOWERS

November 16, 2009
To Scatter Flowers
O Jesus! O my Love! each eve I come to fling
My springtide roses sweet before Thy Cross divine;
By their plucked petals fair, my hands so gladly bring,
I long to dry Thine every tear!
To scatter flowers!—that means each sacrifice:
My lightest sighs and pains, my heaviest, saddest hours,
My hopes, my joys, my prayers—I will not count the price—
Behold my flowers!
With deep untold delight Thy beauty fills my soul,
Would I might light this love in hearts of all who live!
For this, my fairest flowers, all things in my control,
How fondly, gladly would I give!
To scatter flowers!—behold my chosen sword
For saving sinners’ souls and filling Heaven’s bowers:
The victory is mine—yea, I disarm Thee, Lord,
With these my flowers!
The petals in their flight caress Thy Holy Face;
They tell Thee that my heart is Thine, and Thine alone.
Thou knowest what these leaves are saying in my place:
On me Thou smilest from Thy Throne.
To scatter flowers!—that means, to speak of Thee—
My only pleasure here, where tears fill all the hours;
But soon, with Angel Hosts, my spirit shall be free
To scatter flowers.

A Psalm for Kevin…

April 21, 2009

A Psalm for Kevin…

Write Kevin, write; release the dark soul of the night,
The pain deep within that you hide with a grin,
The fear we all share, and wonder who cares.

Write Kevin, write; release the dark soul of the night,
When your children cry and no comfort is found,
When all who we love are no where around,

Write Kevin, write; release you inner light,
The Light we all fear in to far or too near,
The Light that guides us even though….

Tears, fears, and a weary heart,
When hugs from friends are not enough,
When we find trust has begun to rust…
When the knot we tied is not enough….

Write Kevin write; release the bonds that hold you,
Grease the rope you hold thinking it secures you…
Write so that we all know we are all the same in His eyes…

Many forsake us on our way home,
Many will not seek to follow where we roam
They gather the moss and we follow the Call
So write Kevin… write…

Biblical Hope. Does God Hope?

December 12, 2008

Biblical hope is trusting in that what God has done will come as it was promised. Jesus’ return is the Blessed Hope… For Jesus is our Hope… to say that “hoping it happens” is not biblical hope at all… Biblical hope is to “anticipate with confidenc or expectancy.” I think God placed His Hope in Christ Jesus… and knowing that His desires would come to fulfillment in the Hope that is and comes through Christ Jesus. Do a word study on “Hope” in the bible and you will see what I am saying. Often “Faith” and “Hope” are translated from the same word from Greek.

I think God anticipates with expectancy that which he began in Christ Jesus before the Creation of the world… or as the writer of Hebrews put it…

Hebrews 11: 1. “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

I see God hoped to redeemed all people and it is by faith in Christ he planned to do this and was certain it would work.

I hope you do not disagree that God held in total confidence that His Hope for us would save us… For it is His Hope we receive as all things are a gift from God… for if salvation is of God alone as you state you believe, then Hope is from God and of God and imparted to us through Jesus Christ… If the hope as some state is only produced from human effort it is Godless hope and does nothing for us.

I will also add that all godly things come from God. As with righteousness and holiness, hope is also a gift of and from God. Our hope is not as this world hopes it is God’s hope imparted to us. Otherwise to say we have “hope” in Christ, by your definition leaves us with uncertainty.

Hope

November 19, 2008

OK I dabble in poems/lyrics a bit. I try not to push them on others, but thought I might share this one.

Hope

Picture yourself on a boat on a river,
The river runs swift taking you down.
You feel like the waves will turn the boat over,
Tossing you; you fear you might drown.

Picture the boat finding the sea,
The waves are as big as the fear that now grips you.
You feel so small in the middle of nowhere,
The ocean feels like it could swallow you to.

Seeking serenity.
Seeking that inner peace.
Looking with fear within.
Finding no hope.
To start again.

The water looks like it goes on forever.
The salt on your tongue stings in the wind
Your lips are so dry as dry as your soul
Your mind races by wishing life to begin again,

Seeking serenity.
Seeking that inner peace.
Looking with fear within.
Finding no hope.
To start again.

You see something there on the horizon
A glimmer of hope or just a mirage?
You scream yet no voice rises from within.
You gather last strength and courage,

And dive in

Seeking serenity
Seeking that inner peace
Looking with fear within
Finding new hope.
To start again

Picture yourself on a ship on the ocean
The captain assures you he knows where to go…
